The Humphrey School of Public Affairs presented 2014 Hubert
H. Humphrey Public Leadership Awards to five individuals and organizations that
have made critical contributions to the common good through leadership and
service. This year’s awards coincided with a yearlong series of events
sponsored by the Humphrey School and community partners to reflect on progress
achieved and challenges ahead during the 50th anniversary year of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964.
Eric Schwartz, dean of the Humphrey School, said that
“Hubert Humphrey, our School’s namesake, worked tirelessly to ensure passage of
the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Our awardees honor his legacy, and we are
thrilled and humbled by their work, and their willingness to accept our
expression of appreciation.”
Recipients were honored at a gala dinner on Wednesday, June
25, at the McNamara Alumni Center. Proceeds from the event benefited a student
scholarship initiative.
