Amelious serves as assistant dean of students, a position he has held since 2012, and has served as chief of staff in the Office for Student Affairs since 2005. He has over 20 years of academic administrative experience at the University of Minnesota, including positions in the Office of the Board of Regents and with Boynton Health Service. He has tremendous expertise and a long history of involvement in various issues related to student development and the student experience, including campus climate, alcohol and drug prevention, mental health, fraternity and sorority life, student organizations, diversity, and other mission-led programs and initiatives.
Amelious received a bachelor of science degree in public administration from the University of Southern California and a master's degree in public affairs from the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota. He will complete his doctorate in higher education from the University of Minnesota in the next academic year.
As interim vice provost and dean of students, Amelious will promote student participation and engagement, collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to student development, provide administrative oversight of the units that comprise the Office for Student Affairs, and serve as liaison to student leaders and student affairs officers across colleges and campuses.
